DescriptionCarbaugh Run Natural Area (1) (8135607950).jpg
Carbaugh Run Natural Area sign, Michaux State Forest, Adams County.
The sign, marking the western boundary of the natural area, bears the old name of the site. A narrow, unblazed, difficult-to-follow trail leads steeply downhill to Carbaugh Run itself.
The natural area is primarily of archeological interest. Much of the site is underlain with rhyolite, a rock that early Native Americans quarried and carved into tools, arrow- and spearheads, and other objects. Artifacts have been found at the ancient campsites and quarry pits.
