English: FIGURE 4 Junction in cross section (glutaraldehyde-H202, Os04 fixation) . The junctional membranes contain globules repeating with a periodicity of -200 A. Each globule measures roughly 125 X 170 A and is oriented with the long diameter perpendicular to the plane of the membrane . Opposite globules appear to join precisely at the center of the junction . X 150,000 .

In addition the membrane of certain vesicles (arrow) display globules similar to those seen in the junctional membranes .
