Nederlands: Een geschoten Soenda-nevelpanter, Deli (Sumatra, Indonesia). Repronegatief. Sumatra kende twee 'grote katten', namelijk Sumatraanse tijgers (Panthera tigris sumatrae) en Soenda-nevelpanters (Neofelis diardi). Gedurende de hele 19e eeuw had men aangenomen dat er ook luipaarden (die men ook wel panters noemde) voorkwamen, een mening die nu verlaten is. De vergissing is begrijpelijk, want zowel luipaard als Soenda-nevelpanter kennen een 'melanische' (dat is zwarte) variëteit. Weliswaar is het luipaard wat groter dan de Soenda-nevelpanter, maar wie zo'n beest voorbij ziet flitsen zal aan die wetenschap niet veel hebben. De Soenda-nevelpanter was niet alleen (net als het luipaard, maar in tegenstelling tot de tijger) een goede beklimmer van bomen, de boom was zelfs zijn meest geliefkoosde verblijfplaats. Het zjjn dieren die men zelden te zien krijgt. Tot op de dag van vandaag zijn ze nauwelijks bestudeerd. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
