English: Emblem of the municipality of Norðurþing, Iceland. It shows a Viking ship in honour of Garðarr Svavarsson, an important figure in early Icelandic history. In the 9th century, he circumnavigated Iceland and stayed for one winter on the island's north coast. Norðurþing became a new municipality after mergers in 2006; its emblem was originally used by Húsavík. |
