Description Botrypus virginianus subsp. virginianus, rattlesnake fern, collected June 30, 1940 by R M. Tryon Jr. and P. F. Tryon. From Garrett Bay, 1 mile west of Gills Rock. Growing at the edge of a road through a Beech-Maple woods. Damp, half-shady. The roots in humus. Common, associated with Poa pratensis and Aralia nudicaulis.
