Summary

Description

c/n 32509(-DL). Built by Douglas at Long Beach, CA in July 1945. Full US military serial 44-83868. Converted to a radar equipped PB-1W for the US Navy and given the Bureau No 77233. Flew with Airborne Early Warning unit VPW-1 and later VW-2. Retired in 1955 and stored. Sold off in 1957 and became N5237V. Converted to a fire bomber and became Tanker E15 with Butler Aviation, later being renumbered as tanker ‘65’. Retired in 1982 and traded to TBM Inc. She was then restored to stock military condition and painted in the markings of the 332nd Bomb Sqn, part of the 94th Bomb Group. Purchased by the USAF Museum, she was donated to the RAF museum in exchange for an Avro Vulcan. During October 1983 she flew to the UK and after a few flypasts, including some with Duxford based ‘Sally B’, she was dismantled and moved to Hendon where she remains on display in the Bomber Command Hall at the RAF Museum, Hendon, London, UK.
