DescriptionBiro My Version of the Story Image 19.jpg
English: My mother's photograph from 1944 taken for an identification certificate. (The size of the original photograph is 3,5 x 4,5 cm) On the back of it one can see the address, not in Ilka' handwriting, of the yellow star house in which mother spent the period spanning from mid-June 1944 till January 18, 1945. (Gedő Ilka, 1921, Budapest, VII. Erzsébet körút 26, II. 8.) Mother's eyes are both wistful and wary in this photo. Her lips are pressed together slightly, expressing Ilka's resolve to overcome the horror which was in the making. However, the upper lip is slightly pouted showing Ilka's resentment of the madness in the making around her.
