Summary

Description Te Toka a Kapetaua: Last surviving wave washed wooden cottage type lighthouse in New Zealand and one of only a few worldwide. Ponui Passage, Waitemata Harbour, Auckland. Named after Royal Navy officer, Lieutenant P.C.D. Bean, of HMS Herald, who helped to survey and chart Waitemata Harbour in the 1840s. Opened by Hugh Brown, the first keeper, with its English kerosene lamp of 350 candlepower.
