Summary

Portrait of Robert Knight, Baron Luxborough, later Earl of Catherlough (1702-1772), half-length, in Irish peer's robes, a tricorn under his left arm inscribed 'The Right Hon Robert Lord Luxborough of Shanon in the Kingdom of Ireland - GKnapton Fecit AD. 1748/9' (on the reverse of the canvas as recorded by photographs, now covered by relining). By George Knapton (London 1698-1778), oil on canvas, 30 x 25 in. (76.3 x 63.5 cm.). Sold by Christie's South Kensington, 11 Dec. 2009, sale no.5860, lot no. 146. Price realised £4,000, gross. Provenance with Leggatt Bros., London, per label on back.
