Summary

Description
English: The drift of Self-propelled barge T-36. Torn off its mooring at Iturup island and dragged off to the open sea by hurricane-force winds on January 17th 1960, after exhausting all fuel, the barge with a crew of four onboard drifted (red track) for 49 days until the crew was rescued on March 7th, 1960 by the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge traveling from Yokosuka to San-Francisco (blue track).
The present version of the image is based on the data from the deck log of USS Kearsarge for March 1960, accessible in the Natonal Archives and on the Natonal Archives website.
