English: Despite being only being a year or so old this Peak class loco (later class 44) looks in the need of a good clean.
D3 Skiddaw carries a 5A shed plate like the Crewe steam engines - on a very dull day at the station at a time when steam, diesel and electric traction shared haulage duties.
This first batch of locos were moved to freight duties not long after and D3 became the first of this class to be scrapped in 1976.
