English: Australian War Memorial Caption: Kuching, Sarawak. 1945-09-18. Most of the internees at the Kuching Camp were flown to Labuan in RAAF Douglas C47 Dakota aircraft - on one day ninety nine passengers were carried. Many of the internees were making their first trip by air, one of the oldest being a 71-year old mission sister. The English children were wildly excited at the prospect of flying home and asked all the questions imaginable about how the pilot flew the aircraft. The RAAF aircrew are: 437037 Warrant Officer (WO) Malcolm Wheaton of Wanbi, SA; 466300 Sergeant Hector James of Moora, WA; 31005 WO Stafford Mackey of Sandy Bar, Tas.
