DescriptionArthur Szyk (1894-1951). Two Down and One to Go pamphlet (1945), Washington DC.jpg
English: This War Department Pamphlet No. 21-31 features a front cover illustration of Hitler, Mussolini, and Hirohito. Published for the War Department by the United States government printing office on 28 April 1945, though V-E Day (May 8) was still days away.
Szyk was recognized as a generous contributor of art for use by the U.S. War Department, and particularly with regard to the selling of US War Bonds. This particular illustration also appeared in other printed media without the faces of Hitler and Mussolini being crossed out. It also appeared in wartime propaganda film, “Two Down and One to Go”, directed by Frank Capra.
