Notes This dynamic drawing shows the act of Christ’s nailing to the Cross with one soldier climbing a ladder to complete the task. It was rapidly sketched in Van Dyck’s idiosyncratic shorthand of features and the harshness of the pen lines softened through the application of a grey wash. It does not correspond to any known paintings by Van Dyck [1]
