| Description |
English: Amlwch Port This view looking northnorth east towards the open sea shows how narrow the port is - a narrow funnel. Before the breakwater was constructed, vessels anchored in the port during a northerly gale were almost certain to suffer severe damage from the 'run' of large waves it generated. In olden times, large balks of timber were hauled across the narrows by winches to form an effective breakwater. |
