Agnus Dei, the lamb of God - a symbol of the figure of Christ - enjoyed great popularity in baroque culture, especially through the very famous and widely copied images created by the painter Francisco Zurbarán, whose work Josefa flowed closely.
The addition of garlands flowers, forming a frame for the picture, softens the violence associated with the act of sacrifice.
