English: View of the choir stairs of the Basilica of Saint Servatius in Maastricht, Netherlands. This photo is taken during a church service in which the main relics of the church are venerated. It is one of the highlights of the 2018 Heiligdomsvaart ("relics pilgrimage"), a religious and historic event that takes place once in seven years and dates back to the Middle Ages. Here the reliquary bust of Saint Servatius, just before it is carried down the stairs by members of the Guild of Saint Servatius. On the left a member of the guild holding the pectoral cross of Saint Servatius; on the right a member holding the key of Saint Servatius. |
