This year is the first time that NATO members, I mean Romania, Bulgaria, Latvian, Lithuanian militaries are attending this exercise and they’re participating in this exercise, so it’s very important time for us, very important that it is NATO members first time in Georgia and joining together in these exercises.”

10.(03:39) SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) – CAPTAIN FRANK WALKER, BLACK SEA ROTATION FORCE “What we’re doing here is practicing conventional offence and defense operations. And what that allows us to do is transition rapidly away from the counter insurgency requirement of Iraq and now Afghanistan and go back to a more general purpose infantry force that can respond to regional crisis.”

11.(03:57) SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) – LIEUTENANT COLONEL DAVID FALLON, COMMANDER – BLACK SEA ROTATION FORCE “When you come down to it you start talking about stability in the region and if we don’t do this, we run the risk of destabilizing by simply not acting, and therefore, our interaction, our involvement with these countries leads to a more stable situation.”

“With the Georgians, we have a long history of working side by side in Afghanistan absolutely, so our marines, working alongside them in the field during exercises like Agile Spirit familiarizes ourselves because there’s a strong likelihood that we’re going to find ourselves side by side.”
