This is the 7th generation Thunderbird built from 1977-79, now based on the LTD II, it also now shared the squarer, sharper design with the Mercury Cougar. The Thunderbird was distinguished from the LTD II and Cougar 2 door models by its unique wrap-over basket handle roofline with opera windows and large rear side quarter windows separated from the rear window by thin C-pillars. It also featured headlamps hidden with retractable covers.
Models available were, the Standard Hardtop, the Town Landau and for 78, the Diamond Jubilee Edition (Built to commemorate Ford Motor Company's 75th Anniversary). The T roof was also a new option for 1978 (featuring tinted, removable glass hatch panels).
