Vishaal Desai (born 10 March 1983) is an Indian film director and editor, he is the great grandson of former Prime Minister of India Morarji Desai.[1]

He is know for his documentary on the renowned yoga guru B.K.S. Iyengar, titled 'Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar: Uniting Through Yoga,' [2]

Personal life

Vishaal Desai was born in Mumbai, India to Bharat Desai, the eldest grandson of Morarji Desai and Mangala Desai.

Desai is an alumni of the London Film School, graduating in 2009 with a masters degree in screenwriting.[3]

Professional life

In 2009, Desai returned to his hometown of Mumbai, where he founded his production company 'A Thousand Faces Productions,' named after The Hero with a Thousand Faces, written by Joseph Campbell,[4] and produced a number of short films that screened at several festivals worldwide.[5][6]

Desai made his feature debut as a Director in 2018, with the documentary feature 'Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar: Uniting Through Yoga,' a film about the legacy of the Yoga guru B.K.S. Iyengar.[7] The film was subsequently released on the streaming platforms Gaia and Amazon Prime.[8][9]

Following the success of his documentary, Desai produced his first TV show 'Bhak' for the Singapore based HOOQ network.[10][11][12][13]
