An untitled series is an upcoming American superhero television series created by James Gunn for the streaming service Max, based on DC Comics. It is planned to be a DC Extended Universe (DCEU) television series and a spin-off from the 2021 film The Suicide Squad. The series is produced by the Safran Company, Troll Court Entertainment, and DC Studios in association with Warner Bros. Television Studios.

Work on a new The Suicide Squad spin-off series for HBO Max began around the release of Peacemaker in early 2022.

The series is expected to be released on Max, the successor to HBO Max.

In January 2021, before the release of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) film The Suicide Squad, writer and director James Gunn said he had ideas for more television spin-off series beyond the then-in-development Peacemaker,[1] and DC Films president Walter Hamada said a month later that they had plans for more projects with Gunn.[2] When Peacemaker premiered in January 2022, Gunn revealed that he was developing a new television project for DC.[3] The Suicide Squad producer and Peacemaker executive producer Peter Safran said there was potential for more spin-off series based on Suicide Squad members, such as Ratcatcher 2 or Bloodsport.[4]

Gunn's new project was confirmed to be based on a character from The Suicide Squad at the end of January 2022. HBO Max, the streaming service for The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, had not greenlit the new series at that point, and writing had yet to begin, but the service was said to be "high" on the idea based on Gunn's enthusiasm for it.[5] The next month, Gunn said they had been "working heavily" on the series and it had "advanced a lot", with more details to be revealed shortly. He added that he did not necessarily intend to write and direct every The Suicide Squad spin-off himself as he did for Peacemaker.[6] In May, a series featuring the character Amanda Waller was revealed,[7] but Gunn stated a month later that the spin-off was separate from a potential Amanda Waller project though there would be "some blending" of characters from Peacemaker in it.[8] In October, Gunn and Safran were hired to serve as the co-chairmen and co-CEOs of the newly formed DC Studios, where they would respectively focus on the creative and business aspects of future DC film, television, and animated productions, while still working on projects as director and producer, respectively.[9]
