Seyed-Hassan Taghvaei (سید حسن تقوائی ) is an Iranian registered architect, landscape designer, and an associated professor of landscape architecture at the School of Architecture and Urban Planning in Shahid Beheshti University (SBU). Since 2004, he has also continued his working at SINAM Consulting Engineers (SINAM) as an advisor, senior designer, and landscape architecture principal.
S.H.Taghvaei proposed the theory of “Oasis Paradigm” and presented the model of “Fundamental Values and Factors of Landscape” (FVEL), based on his Ph.D. dissertation, 2004.

2011 to 2020 edit
He has worked as Head of the Department of Landscape Architecture and established the Research Core of “Design and Eco-Centered Landscape” with the collaboration of his colleagues in 2012. Besides his professional architectural design activities, Taghvaei works regarding his ideas of both “Tacit Environmental Knowledge” and “Ecological Design” in practices as well.
2003 edit
The theory of “Oasis Paradigm” and the model of “Fundamental Values and Elements of Landscape” (FVEL) proposed based on his Ph.D. dissertation. Eventually, after his long-term research, supervising MLA and Ph.D. theses, and testifying the FVEL model, his applied model in landscape architecture titled “Fundamental Values and Factors of Landscape” (FVFL Model, 2019) proposed and published formally[1].
1997 to 2004 edit
He studied as a Ph.D. student at SBU, during 2003-2004, he got a Ph.D. research sabbatical as a visiting scholar under the supervision of Professor Patrick Miler (former president of ASLA) at Landscape Architecture Department, College of Architecture and Urban Studies, Virginia Polytechnic and State University (Virginia Tech), USA. His innovative Ph.D. dissertation titled “Oasis Paradigm: Ecological Landscape Design in Iranian Hot Arid Zone” was the first topic in Iranian architecture and landscape architecture at that time.

Graduated in architecture (MA), School of Architecture and Urban Planning, Shahid Beheshti University.
Since 1993, he has constantly been working in the education of Architecture, Landscape Design, and Theory in academic and practice, in particular.

Since 2004, he has also continued his working at SINAM Consulting Engineers[2] as a senior designer of architecture and landscape architecture.
Dr. Hassan Taghvaei has been consulting several public institutes and private firms, also leading many major projects in Iran with at least thirty-year experience in education, research, and practice in the field of architecture and landscape architecture.
He has taken part and membered in some national and international academic networks and research centers in the mentioned areas such as:
- membership in TCEO (Tehran Construction Engineering Organization) since 1993,
- member of LE NOTRE- Thematic Network Project in Landscape Architecture
- executive member of ACLS – Asian Cultural Landscape Association (2011-2012).
During these decades, in the academic line and based on commendable cooperation of his colleagues and students in the Department of landscape architecture at SBU, Dr Taghvaei has been supervising more than 120 MLA theses and a few Ph.D. dissertations and developing his researches according to today’s landscape architectural challenges and research-based projects.

Since 2002, Dr. Taghvaei lectures on his work nationally and internationally including paper presentations and invited lectures at the University of Yazd, University of Kerman, and Seoul National University, He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Architecture and Urban Planning.
