Ladsmid Nathaniel Owusu known professionally with the stage name Lasmid (fka Charger) is a Ghanaian musician and songwriter from Takoradi.[1][2] He was crowned winner of the MTN Hitmaker Season 8.[3] He is best known for the viral song Friday Night which gained attention in Ghana topping charts after it became a trend on TikTok.[4][5][6]

In 2019, Lasmid won the MTN Hitmaker season 8 competition, for which he received a GH₵120,000 recording contract.[3] Following the contest, Ghanaian music producer Kaywa signed him to his record label, Highly Spiritual Music.[7][8] In 2022, Nigerian singer Naira Marley expressed interest in signing Lasmid to his label.[9]

As of 2022, he had worked on songs with Sarkodie, Medikal, Kofi Kinaata,[10] Dead Peepol,[11] Mr Drew,[12][13] Kuami Eugene[10] and Amerado[14]

His fame soared following the release of a remix for his single "Sika," where he collaborated with the renowned Ghanaian singer, Kuami Eugene.[10]

Lasmid, a multi-talented artist skilled in singing and rapping, is being recognized as the heir to Kofi Kinaata's musical legacy. He has garnered a significant fan base, especially in Takoradi, Ghana.[10]

Controversies edit

Under the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards night program, Lamid made some performance which after the program brought about many discussions. He was critisized of not performing well.[15] After the program, in August 2023, Lasmid admitted himself during an interview with Andy Dosty that, the performance wasn't the one expected by him.[15]
