GRABO is an American worldwide manufacturer of vacuum power tools for the construction, manufacturing, flooring and woodworking industries, as well as home craftspeople. These tools are designed to make the process of lifting, carrying, and installing heavy materials easier and safer. The company’s flagship product, the GRABO tool, is the world's first portable electric vacuum hand power tool, known for its versatility in lifting a wide range of materials, including glass, tiles, wood, metal, and other flat or slightly porous surfaces.

History

edit

GRABO is the brainchild of Nimo Rotem from Nemo Power Tools, which is known as being the first and only developer of professional level water-proof power tools for various industries. The original conceit of the GRABO came from an unsuccessful rock climbing trip, when Rotem had the idea, if only there was a product that could help "grab" onto the rough and slightly porous surface. With headquarters in Las Vegas and Hong Kong, Nemo Power Tools has a global presence with its network of engineering, design and management offices in Israel, USA and Australia. The company has an ever-growing network of over 150 distributors in 50 countries.

Nemo Power Tools

edit

Nemo Power Tools began in 2010 when the Rotem started customizing, designing and manufacturing power tools for scientific and government organizations. These hi-precision custom-built power tools were supplied to the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy, Israeli Defense Forces and many other clients with special requirements.

In the year 2013, Nimo Rotem and Oleg Zhukov, the founders of Nemo Power Tools, took a giant leap of faith by venturing into the mass market.[2] The objective was to adopt the technology, design and build philosophy, perfected over years, for mass production of the power tools.

With the decision in place, the company introduced its line of premium power tools and accessories for both professionals and individuals. Borrowing battery and electronics efficiencies from drones, or the cooling systems used in computers, and even fabrication methods for marine gear, the very first product range in this regard targeted the offshore drilling industry and commercial divers. This product line included cordless waterproof tools, scuba diving lights, lasers and other relevant marine-grade equipment.[3]

With the 2014 launch of mass-market power tools, Nemo Power Tools have expanded the product range to include heavy-duty equipment for both off-shore and on-shore professionals. This product range of premium tools covers several models of drills, impact wrenches, hull cleaners, impact drivers, angle grinders, and hammer drills.[4]

GRABO tools

edit

In 2019, Nimo Rotem patented GRABO. A tool that revolutionized material handling and heavy-lifting equipment, especially in the construction industry. GRABO’s product lineup includes several models of the vacuum lifting tool, each tailored to specific needs and applications. The GRABO Pro-Lifter 20, for example, features digital sensors and displays for enhanced usability, while other models focus on providing maximum lifting power and durability for demanding tasks. In addition to the lifting tools, GRABO also offers a range of accessories and attachments, such as the Erguo S1, which extend the functionality of the tools and reduce strain on the user.[5]

Innovations and Technology

edit

The GRABO tool employs an electric vacuum pump that creates a strong suction force, allowing it to securely attach to various materials.[6] The patented foam seal allows the tool to grip onto textured materials such as rough stone, plywood and diamond plated metal.[7] This technology not only increases safety by reducing the risk of materials slipping during transport but also enhances efficiency by allowing a single person to handle tasks that would traditionally require multiple workers. The tool is widely used in industries such as construction, flooring, factories and manufacturing, glass installation, and interior finishing.[8]

The flow rate required from GRABO to keep a strong vacuum seal against a porous surface, is generally described by a formula of generalized Murray’s law.

Where the X is the ratio of mass variation during mass transfer in the parent pore, the exponent α is dependent on the type of the transfer. For laminar flow α = 3; for turbulent flow α = 7/3; for molecule or ionic diffusion α = 2; etc. The flow rate is than multiplied by the surface area under the seal for a given pressure differential, which results in the flow rate and power requirement from GRABO’s internal electric pump.

Partnerships and Collaborations

edit

In 2024, GRABO established partnerships with major brands like Flex-Elektrowerkzeuge, the parent company of North American brand and subsidiary DeWALT, under the parent company Stanley Black & Decker. GRABO began manufacturing custom versions of its tools as a co-branded partnership for distribution in various markets. These partnerships have expanded the reach of GRABO tools, solidifying its presence in the global market as the go-to brand name for vacuum technology power tools.

edit

As the original inventor of the portable electric vacuum lifting tool, GRABO holds patents in multiple countries and actively defends its intellectual property against infringers.[9] The company has been successful in several legal battles, which has helped maintain its reputation as a leader in the industry.[10]

Future Directions

edit

GRABO continues to innovate, with ongoing research and development focused on enhancing the functionality of its tools and expanding its product range. The company is also exploring new markets and applications for its technology, with an emphasis on larger lift systems in factories and manufacturing, remote technology, outdoor and hardscape porous pavers.
