The Chinese long-haired wolfdog (Chinese: 中國長毛狼犬), also known as the Chinese shepherd(Chinese: 中國牧羊犬), is a rare dog breed in China.^[1]^[2]

Background

The Chinese long-haired wolfdog is a Chinese dog breed bred in China's military dog breeding bases since the 20th century.^[3] It is mainly used as military dogs and rescue dogs. This dog breed has the ancestry of West German Shepherd, Belgian Tervuren, Chinese wolves, etc., as well as the CSV anti-ancestral gene.^[4]^[5]^[6]

In 2016, Fédération Cynologique Internationale awarded this breed the title of "The most adaptable military dog in the world and the best rescue dog".^[7]
