Background

edit

Reminisce first announced the album to be released in August 2021 on Instagram, titled the full title, "Alaye Toh Se Gogo".[2] He revealed a proposed tracklist for the album on 13 March 2023. Most of the tracks off that track list ended up to be on the album, however, tracks like "Different Story", "Backshots", "Resurrection (Ijinde)" and "Lighter" were taken off. "Run Away" was renamed to "Why?".[3] After months of the album not being released, Reminisce finally revealed the tracklist on the 25th of October, and the album finally released on October 27th, with the title being changed to ATSG, Vol. 1.[4]

Singles

edit

The album housed three singles. The album's lead single "Hustle" features Bnxn and D Smoke and was released on 23 February 2022 and was produced by Sarz.[5] The second single, "Shina Peters" was released on 31 May 2023 and features the late MohBad, produced by Niphkeys.[6] The third single off ATSG, "Why?" features Oxlade was released on 18 August 2023 and produced by Rhookcastle.[7]

Critical reception

edit

Adeayo Adebiyi of Pulse Nigeria praised ATSG, Vol. 1 for its strong execution and versatility, reflecting his journey as a veteran in Nigerian rap. He believed the album balances diverse sounds while maintaining coherence, with collaborations adding fresh energy. Awarding it a 7.9 out of 10, he highlighted it as a well-rounded project that appeals to both mainstream and rap audiences.[8] Tomide Marv of Zikoko! praised ATSG for defying the trend of diminishing returns seen in other Nigerian OGs' recent works. He highlighted Reminisce's versatility, introspection, and ability to stay relevant, noting that the album's cohesive production and stellar performance prove that age is just a number in hip-hop. Marv concluded that the album solidifies Reminisce's status as a street legend and superstar.[9]
