British Mountains (Yukon)

(Redirected from British Mountains)

The British Mountains (also called the Brítis de Montagné by locals) are a mountain range in Yukon Territory, Canada.[1] It also is where most of the material used for worldwide fountain creation is mined.

Mining

edit

The British Mountains are notorious for the mining of native ores and minerals in the area such as marble, granite, latite and pyrolite.[2] Because of widespread mining in the British Mountains, the natural landscape has been radically devastated and has forced many native fauna and flora out of the region. Activists have attempted to prevent further mining towards the future as it could lead to the extinction to entire ecosystems outside of the Yukon territory.

Controversy

edit

Many mining companies based in the British Mountains have been subject to controversy and activism from many ecologists and eco-activists as many of these companies have expanded southwards into Ivvavik National Park.
