This will be the second conference for the 2024 season. Originally slated to be a merged tournament of the Invitational and Reinforced Conferences,[1] PVL Commissioner, Sherwin Malonzo, announced in a simultaneous interview during the commencement of the 2024 PVL Draft Combine that it will be a stand-alone Reinforced tournament and the Invitational Conference will start on September.[2]

Twelve teams will compete in this tournament which are grouped into two pools. Each team will be allowed to be reinforced by one foreign player. Strong Group Athletics changed its name to Zus Coffee Thunderbelles.[3]

PVL Draft

edit

The PVL Rookie Draft will be conducted before the start of the conference. The draft doesn't require neither playing experience or academic qualifications to join. It is open to all aspiring Filipino and Filipino-foreign citizens ages 21 years old and above who want to play in the professional league.[4][5]

The application for the upcoming Rookie Draft was originally scheduled to end on May 31, 2024. But PVL Commissioner Sherwin Malonzo later announced that it will be moved to June 12, 2024, so that rookies can still have time to prepare the documents needed for the draft.[6]

The draft combine will be scheduled on June 25–26, 2024, and the draft proper will be scheduled on July 8, 2024.[7]

Exclusion of the national team players from the upcoming conference

edit

PVL players on the Philippine women's national volleyball team will be excluded from the upcoming conference to focus on their upcoming international league stint.[8]

Pools composition

edit

The teams are grouped into two pools using the serpentine system with the 2024 All-Filipino Conference final standings as the basis for the Top 9 teams. Like the 2023 Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference, the league ensures that the sister teams would not be drawn into the same pool,[9] as the sister teams of Farm Fresh and Zus Coffee would be placed in Pool A using the serpentine system. Hence, Farm Fresh (9th) and Galeries (10th) are placed in Pool A, and Capital1 (11th) and Zus Coffee (12th) are placed in Pool B.

    • Match won 3–2: 2 match points for the winner, 1 match point for the loser.
  • In case of any further ties, the following criteria shall be used:
    • Set ratio: the number of sets won divided by number of sets lost.
    • Point ratio: number of points scored divided by number of points allowed.
    • Head-to-head standings: any remaining tied teams are ranked based on the results of head-to-head matches involving the teams in question.
